To that end, we have set the following objectives:
- Use recycled paper whenever possible
Ensure that we recycle wherever possible; paper and waste
- Ensure that we are able to detect and, where possible, prevent pollution through accidental emissions or effluent discharges
- Ensure that our management, staff, and suppliers act in accordance with our environmental management system.
V.G. Reed & sons has attained certification with the Forest Stewardship Council TM (FSC®) and also is certified by SFI®(Sustainable Forestry Initiative TM), both independent, non-profit organizations responsible for maintaining, overseeing and improving a sustainable forestry certification program. Green Information Technology or Green I.T.
Thin client computing has been used for a decade. Thin clients use a fraction of the energy required by a typical desktop computer and contain fewer parts. The devices are constantly reused in our operations and when needed are refurbished instead of sent to a landfill. Power reduction and waste reduction are the essence of green initiatives.
VMWare computer virtualization technologies have been used onsite since 2006. These technologies have stopped the senseless cyle of unwarranted computer purchases. Most computers are used 10% of the time and VMWare computer virtualiztion has allowed power consumption and cost reduction of 80-90 percent. By virtualizing many servers and workstations that would have remained powered on day and night energy use is reduced. Shrinking the need for desktop and server purchases and consolidating solutions has resulted in greener computing that is better for the environment.
